The morning after.

Finishing a project especially one that you’ve given so much of yourself to can be both rewarding and exhausting. Giving yourself time to recoup is so important, even if that means leftover pizza for breakfast.

About

I dreamed of being a Biologist for the National Park Service growing up. One of my inspirations was the 1983 movie “Never Cry Wolf” starring Charles Martin Smith, it’s about a biologist sent north to the Canadian arctic to study what was killing the caribou. So when I started college I declared Biology as my major. Then after a few semesters the struggle of family responsibilities, working multiple jobs and going to school full time became a bit overwhelming, so I withdrew from school to focus on the family. Several years later I was able to shift gears and I decided to go back to school, part time at least. This time I changed my direction and focused to Art and Graphic Design. I’ve always had artistic leanings, so going with what felt more natural and achievable I committed myself to that.

Growing up in rural areas west of Tulsa, Ok. I was always outside fishing and exploring, that’s just what you did. So the time spent outside I think helped to instill my love and appreciation for wild places. Now we didn’t travel to far off places when I was a kid, I actually only remember going on two long distance trips. But the local woods and lakes were my adventures. That only stoked my dreams of those far off places, of high mountains, deep canyons, lonely deserts and ragging rivers.

Photography has always held a special place in my heart. I would marvel at the images I would see in my Grandpa’s National Geographic. The far off places, the foreign cultures, the animals and the amazing landscapes. The deep dives into those NatGeo magazines were my escapes.

So putting my over two decades of experience in art and design to use. I’ve been slowly transitioning to photography. I try to capture the world as I see it. By capturing wide vistas to the smallest details, I want to celebrate nature and the environment and hopefully inspire people to action.

You may have noticed there are a few #hashtags that I use regularly, here is a brief description as to why and what they mean for me.

#dothework : To do the work to continually grow and improve my craft and skill as a photographer and storyteller. Doing the work to educate myself not only on the technical aspects but to refine the aesthetic of my work, to grow as an artist.

#goanddo : To go and do the work of creating and sharing the images and stories that represent the issues that are most important to me, and to try to inspire others to care a bit more about them, and maybe to even take action towards improving their little piece of the world.

#liveyourpassion : To always move forward, to continually push towards a better life to share and show this beautiful world through my images. And to hopefully inspire someone to action, to help protect this beautiful and fragile yet resilient world that we live in. To ultimately live a life of purpose and passion.
